Time signatures are easy in theory; the top number is how many beats are in a bar(i.e. what metre is it in), and the bottom number tells you what kind of note is the beat(4=quarter, 2=half, 8=eighth, etc.), but this concept can be pretty brain melting for people who are only used to reading 4/4 or 3/4 or other "simple" time signatures. Hopefully this video gives enough examples and explanations to smooth out this concept for most people. I might even do another video with just tons of examples, one after another, to practice reading and counting rhythm...

I love this dude❤ Because the first few times i watched this same video i didnt understand . But i decided to step up my game and pay attention and this was very easy😂 . ❤
Worth watching, i was so anxious to know the whole thing that you just taught us and it has been a long time since i was trying to learn but now iam breathing free phew!! 🤩 Thank you God bless you brother 🙏
I understood every explanation just one play. I have found my new music theory class
0:34 send prayers 🤣🤣
I’m laughing hard at myself because since last night I’m looking at notes - but I do really want to learn reading so I can play from those hymn music sheets 😩😩 send prayers
Learn to read music is very much like learning a language; it’s complicated and takes time. Start small and build your skills and confidence, but keep working at it and it will get better and better. Good luck!
@@BradHarrison Thank for the kind words Brad 🫶🏾
Good. But too fast for a beginner. I had to reduce the speed to 0.5x. Thank you anyway
It’s a lot of info. But the circle isn’t the beginning of learning this stuff, it’s the intersection of a bunch of topics. Check this playlist out for any topic you need to brush up on. I’ve already covered basically every topic referenced in the circle of fifths video good luck! ruclips.net/p/PLDaNGknQ_wTh3eXyjB0smdEYSvqa-wJ1_
i still failed
Oh no! Did you use the method? Or were there other topics in the test/course that you were struggling with?
@@BradHarrison i didd i just cant understand music at all!!!😭 im dropping it tho so idrc
Sorry to hear it! Sounds like there’s maybe some fundamentals missing. Some teachers aren’t great at covering those or identifying what’s even missing. If you ever decide to come back to music, maybe a different teacher can help you out with those. All the best!
Method 3 really follows the Nike slogan!
Pretty much! And I did a whole video about why it’s useful to learn all your major scales/keys too! Major Scales Give You Superpowers ruclips.net/video/kjlNF0QFTZ0/видео.html
how about the circle of minor seconds
What about it? It’s possible but a lot of the patterns available on the circle of fifths become much more chaotic.
Yoooooo this video is PERFECT. THANK YOU
Thank you I almost cried on my books if weren't for this video, I think I might actually have a chance of acing my exams tomorrow🥺🥺💖
Good luck! Let me know how it goes!
@@BradHarrison I will 😁
3:54 did you say E# 💀
Yep. It’s a real live note.
The best video out there in the circle of 5th ⭕️
This is the best musical advice ever!

I didn’t grasp one thing in this and I’ve watched it 1600 times

Sorry, my head just exploded.
Where did we lose you?
@@BradHarrison I meant the comment to be funny. I'm... ahem... slightly past... middle age... and just learning music theory, and my brain would been happier if the video was with the same content, but titled "Minor Scales - Everything You Need to Know in 30 minutes" 🙂 On a more serious note, your explanation was very good and I appreciate your taking the time to make it.
@GarySchiltz No worries! This is tough stuff. But it really comes together when you play it on your instrument. The theory is one thing(and really, it’s all pretty simple patterns) but the execution is a whole new dimension and that’s what it’s a really all about anyway. Good luck!
hi, harrison. do these scales apply to all instrument. i play an instrument from turkey called saz and i was wondering if these scales can be applied to the saz.
It applies to many instruments but not all, either because they don’t have the same tuning systems, or because they’re aren’t fully chromatic. It definitely applies to every melodic instrument you would see in a symphony orchestra, but I’m not terribly familiar with Turkish instruments and music. Is the saz fully chromatic? If so, it can play all the major scales, but depending on the music you want to play, major scales may not even be the most applicable. This is something you’d want to explore with a teacher familiar with these genres.
@@BradHarrisonI'm not sure if the saz is fully chromatic and don't really know what fully chromatic is. i've played the saz for a couple of months and i want to learn a lot of songs on it. But the problem is that the songs i want to learn, i have to learn by ear and i thought scales would help with learning by ear. That is why i asked if it applies to all instruments. thanks for the help btw, i really appreciate it.
Scales of one kind or another do apply to basically every instrument, and they will definitely help with ear training too. I found one page that talked about learning the sax and they also echoed learning scales. So, short answer, let’s say yes this does apply at least in some form. I recommend finding a teacher too who can help guide you. Even a lesson or two would be helpful. Good luck!
@@BradHarrisonthanks for the help. i'll see if i can find a teacher who can help me with this issue.
yo ive learned all this by ear for over 20 years and you just made this dumb simple for me to understand

Trumpet in Unicorn is my favourite key. Thanks for clear explanation.
Pizza = fuel lol
Wow, there's so much to it! It's going to take me some time to digest that. Many thanks 😊
Its speedy...may you lower your tempo 😊
Please feel free to pause, inspect, digest, practice, review, and rewatch! Everyone gets this stuff at a different pace and some will need more practice and review than others. Good luck!
You are too fast
Feel free to go back and review any section that’s tricky! But really you figure this stuff out when you go a practice and dig into the music on your own. Any specific part you’re confused by?
broooo that knocking audio was messed up 😫 scared the hellmout of me
I'm just learning this but this was really insightful and helpful
Thank you so much.
Please speak slower- not in 6/8 but in 2/4😂
Feel free to pause at any time to digest the information or inspect the visuals! Or go back and watch a section or even the whole video again. Good luck!
Of course I can do that-that’s a given and we all know how to watch a clip. I just wanted to give you some feedback on your presentation. Unfortunately you do not seem to be open to it. Good luck with your videos.
Everyone is going to absorb this info at a different rate! It’s impossible to get it right for everyone. Sometimes I watch other videos that I have to really concentrate on and review diligently, other times I just want them to get on with it! Happy to have the feedback and engagement! I’ve gotten way more positive than negative and I know many people review and rewatch my videos. And if you’d like to set up a lesson to dig into anything at all, I do online lessons too. Cheers and have a fabulous day!
@04:54 Actually, that would be more straigtforward.... use the same connotation for EVERY darn scale. . . .and not have to consider this kind of distractors. . .
Yeah, enharmonic equivalents. It’s one of those things that actually reduces complications in the long-run. Eliminating them actually creates more exceptions.
@@BradHarrison got it 👍
Omg thank you so much i was struggling before seeing this video
This is truly eye- & mind-opening because one can follow the sensible and graphic explanation.
This lessons will definitely enhance my reading skills of a piece. Thankyou So much keep it up❤

Thank You So Much. From Bryan Mandan

OMG ! , THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS CLASS !!!!!
Thank you!
@11:28 "bars of different lengths in simple meter", that 5/4 would be complex meter, right? Thanks
I generally consider 5/4 to be simple meter because you’re counting the quarter. But there are instances where you are in fact mixing quarter and dotted quarter pulses that feel like complex meter, but then you get into the discussion of if it should really be 10/8 instead. Sometimes these things are blurry and depend on context.
Just learning guitar and this hurts my brain.😮

At my school, the choir sight-reads from hymnals. It's difficult but it's worth it because it helps a lot. Thanks for the video! May God bless
Um, actually, you could just call a diminished fifth a tritone. 🤓
Awesome video! Your lessons are gold! Although I got lost in the middle of it because it's a deep subject indeed hahaha. But for my goal to understand sharps and flats and the importance to learn the circle it did the job. Thanks!!
